Abusus Non Tollit Usum

If you have been reading my blog at all or if you know me very well, then you would know that I am an information junky. I use google reader, the one-stop shop for all my digital perusing. However, I recently added Twitter as a medium for checking out the latest news and links. This has been really effective to follow companies or products that I would like to learn more about but not interested enough to follow their blog. I also use it to share links that I find interesting. Check me out at twitter.

Twitter began in 2006 so I have held off for a long time. Initially, I thought the concept of "tweeting" your location and your thoughts was another symptom of our narcissistic culture. You see, I am just one of the many hundreds of thousands of people who grew up with the internet, email, and aol IM for the past 15 years. Instant messaging has grown and evolved since, but the desired concept for instant communication and social networking remains the same. That is of course, one of the pro's; I could argue for many more con's. At this point I imagine my friend say, "Abusus non tollit usum," which means abuse does not take away from proper use.

So here I am, jumping on the wave of social media with platforms called Twitter and Facebook. I still believe they provide telling trends for our culture, not all of which are positive. But remember...Abusus non tollit usum.
